"The Men of Noble Girth" EPFC on tour

The boys were up to their old tricks in Kamloops this year, managing to go through the group stage undefeated with a particularly thrilling comeback in our third game on the second day. Our annual meeting with Fat Boyz FC in the group stage meant that this game was set up to be a torrid affair with both teams undefeated in the tournament so far and vying for the top seed to put them through to the A Semi Finals.

The heat was a severe issue with temperatures scorching in the low 40's. This did not deter Fat Boyz though as they got off to quick start with decisive pass that appeared to play their striker offside however no call was made. Within mere minutes they had doubled their lead. Down at half time and needing a surge direly, the lads managed to rally back in the form of Davey Mac who left his traditional center back role and assumed position in behind the striker.

It did not take him long as he scored a stunning strike from distance that left Fat Boyz FC stunned and our lads completely revitalised. It was not long after that Ari Masazume scored a delightful little flick into the bottom corner of the net from a corner kick that just absolutely oozed class. Now deep into injury time it seemed destined that the two teams would share the spoils but in steps Davey once again to score an absolute wonder strike to take the win in emphatic fashion.

The Semi Finals were played later that day but it was to no avail as we lost at a score of 3-1. The boys had put so much into the last group stage game (and the beer garden for that matter) that we were ultimately undone. We ended up third place in the tournament and in the end all I can say is that I am nothing but proud of the lads we took up this year, a mixture of boys that grew together to become Men of Noble Girth.
